Movie Hype: The Los Angeles Festival of Movies Apr 3-6, This Is Not A Fiction Apr 9-17, Dangerous Animals & Secret Mall Apartment

The Los Angeles Festival of Movies is back for a 2nd year this April.

APRIL 3–6
Eastside venues across Los Angeles
 $20 - Individual film screenings
$30 - Individual tickets to Opening & Closing Night, and Special Screenings
$30 - Individual tickets to Talks
or just buys a film pass

It's pure weird, sanctimonious, overpriced and a smaller-get-together with quite a strange selection. It's LA up the wahzoo and perfect for the cinephile who wants to both talk real, but escape talking so real. In other words, it's a LA Film Festival. Oh, man we wanted to see Happyend, but it's already sold out! Actually, quite a few are already sold out, sheesh. * They'll be another wave of tickets on sale on 3/31 for many of the sold out screenings.

 From the press release:

"The Los Angeles Festival of Movies (LAFM), co-founded by Micah Gottlieb and Sarah Winshall, will present a program of over 20 films including one world premiere, two restorations, two artist talks, a curated short film program, and a newly introduced Animation Today program, showcasing a selection of animated short films from around the world.

The festival will open with Amalia Ulman’s satire Magic Farm starring ChloĆ« Sevigny, Simon Rex, and Alex Wolff, on April 3,2025. The festival will present the West Coast Premiere of A24’s Friendship, a comedy starring Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, Kate Mara, and Jack Dylan Grazer, as well as the West Coast premiere of the 4K restorations of Robina Rose’s portrait of the UK underground, Nightshift, and Jessie Maple’s Will, the first independent feature-length film directed by an African-American woman. LAFM will close with Neo Sora’s Happyend, which follows two high school best friends in a heavily surveilled Japan of the near-future."

We're looking forward to the crazy nonsense in Dangerous Animals in theaters June 6th

"Trapped on a killer’s boat with hungry sharks circling below, a surfer must outwit a predator more dangerous than the ocean itself—will she escape, or become the next offering to the deep? Sean Byrne returns with his third visceral feature, DANGEROUS ANIMALS."

We've got another poster for Secret Mall Apartment, now in theaters, read our review here
