I Might Cry: Devil May Cry Review

It blows, bro.

Spoilers

Eight episodes about Lady and how much a b*tch she is, her sidekick Dante and tack on a refugee crisis?

The show is supposed to be about a fun-loving demon hunter named Dante that has super powers and because of some demon blood in him. A total 90's early 2000's video game character.

Did I ever want this to be just fun, turn off your brain and watch content. And, when Dante is in the show, which I would assume mathematically is less than Lady, a demon hunter SWAT team member in this incarnation of Devil May Cry, it is just fights and fun action. When Dante isn't around, sigh, it's either Lady and the Born-to-die crew or the show faltering on top of one of the most, "Jesus Christ, this is where you're going with the story!" set-ups of a refugee crisis in Hell.

And, if you're asking how does that work with Dante's style and personality, it doesn't. Dante has no connection to any of the "good demons" in the show being massacred because the show never introduces one to him. The show forgets or doesn't care. I mean at that point he isn't the main character.

Get use to a demon hunting team more expandable than Deadpool, but they don't come back. Enjoy their Capcom-cool designs, while they're alive. This is practically telecasted to you unless you're an idiot.

If cut down to just when Dante is on screen. And, even the fun premise and portrayal of America via the 90's it works, but then the show focuses so much on the exact opposite of Dante with Lady, I mean, they dropped the ball.

When the f was this made? I was like, is that Kevin Conroy talking, the iconic voice of Batman, he's been dead since 2022. This show just came out, how long has Netflix been sitting on this? And, why did it take so long?

An answer might be Adi Shankar is the showrunner and executive producer behind this as you can see his name pop-up like five times during the credits. He gave us the Castelvania cartoons (notoriously slow to come out) and like most of them, added nonsense garbage story and following side-characters that don't matter. Great fights, bad writing.

Just skip to the fight scenes or some Dante cut, the story here is not worth your time, cept' maybe the effeminate dandy cowboy President you meet for a few seconds.

WeebFest Retro April 6

*Gotta give it up for Riverside Game Lab having something called WeebFest Retro this Sunday. This is further out, but we're gonna have the big push for Coachella coming up, so people are getting out of the city over April.

What's That? Why It Was WonderCon 2025

Truly it was a WonderCon. WonderCon 2025 has came and gone. And, with it a different con. We enjoyed ourselves and saw many a smiling face and looks of awe and wonder.

Still it was missing many old time fan favorites. It had panels from DC Comics, but no DC Comic booth? Jim Lee, current editor and in the guy charge was there, but couldn't bring a booth? Doesn't seem like WB's is giving him some help.

It's not just comics, we saw a lot less from gaming and movies. This is the place to interact and hype fans to see your stuff. Bring your booths. Funko, easily was king with its booth at this con. We have a whole other post devoted to it.

It's the oddest thing not to see comic publishers and other entertainment groups not try and show off to new readers...new fans.

What was at WonderCon was revered, because at least they came out for the fans.

We're gonna go over some booths that just get the gold star for being there, but we'd probably showcase them anyway. Those funky shirts above came from Ohmonah, a small artist owned business. We stopped dead in our tracks to check out their booth right near Artist Alley. We have to give major props to the discounts and deals on the wonderfully designed merch including: a shark backpack and fish shopping bags.

Not far was an old friend of the site. Steve Minty was showcasing the greatest collection of bottle openers in all the land..or adjacent to Disneyland.

Really some of the caliber of items you get at Artist Alley is just simply amazing. All these smaller artists are producing goods that larger companies should. It's just mind-blowing that they can't be featured or have bigger presences as part of brands.

Of course Pokemon, was a major source of love in Artist Alley.

Illustrator Gabby Ramirez stood out to us, by recreating Pokemon cards in her own design. That is nuts, she recreated the flippin' the cards her way.

Just look at these lovely sticker packs from another artist!
Ridiculous, we all know cats hate hats

Sony, was possibly the only studio promoting their upcoming films with a booth. Based on a video game, Until Dawn is a new horror film out April 25th. They were giving away free posters and had this lovely undead piece to have your photo taken with. Hats off to them to remind fans to check out something their making.

Bandai Namco wasn't showing off its games, but was showing off it's Gashapon. The collectibles inside each ball capsule are pretty addictive to collect, but they might want to think about making American machines as the annoyance of conversion seems to stop people from fully embracing it. We don't think people enjoy the extra amount of time it takes to get tokens. Sure, the prizes are great, but it's not as easy as just putting some quarters in. We don't really use dollar worth coins in America, like Japan does with Yen.

And in the back, people were playing all manner of strange new card and board games. A nice change of pace for some.

Though none of the bigger comic companies were there, Bad Idea and Mechanical Cake were showing off with their booths. You can see me in the Planet Death armor from Bad Idea. Mechanical had their artists signing comics and touting they were releasing director Ridley Scott's first comic. Bad Idea was giving away a preview issue.

Both intrigued the fans who had come out to see them. Hopefully, more of the old gang can come back and showcase their projects. I know I'm gonna look more into everything I saw than the no shows.

WonderCon remains a wonderful place for people to share their newest and crazy sci-fi concepts or movies or art or just a comic. Cosplayers are gonna show off per usual. It just be nice to have some of those big glam booths and swag again.

Funko Returns To WonderCon 2025: Bringing Loungefly & Mondo

Funko was very much missed at last year's WonderCon. Many people finding it a highlight of the convention over the years. It comes back to fans and with it, sub-labels, no less and the much vaunted con- exclusives. Funko was nice enough the let us on a tour of their booths and show off what they had. Darn it, we were impressed and frankly bewildered by finally starting to understand those tiny backpacks people have.

The con saw the debut of these new arcade type Funko, the Arcade Cabinet Bitty Pops. You can display your mini Funko in a little arcade cabinet. It's pretty adorable.

If it isn't sold out, here's the Funko Exclusives +shipping for WonderCon online.

Loungefly showed off quite the collection of tiny backpacks perfect for cons, theme parks and pretending to be a giant going to school. Not the best size for school books or and iPad. They're good for what you need on the go. We've seen them around and spotted them being sold at Box Lunch/ Hot Topic; it's just sort of crazy how many different styles there are.

Many have extra features like lighting up or some hidden lenticular.

Then, of course, came Mondo. We know they've had changes behind the scenes, but they make some amazing stuff still. It's just every figure you wanted as a kid made for you as an adult.

The question is more, "What don't you want to get?" We want it all! What to even go over, everything made from Mondo just looks perfect. Just hope your cartoon from your childhood has a deal with them.

It's not just figures as they also do vinyl soundtracks, shirts, posters. It's hard to not just want to grab something from them.

Funko was fun. As we first got to the booths, they were holding a raffle and the person right in front of us won, beyond happy for a special prize he would be getting. WonderCon missed you and the convention needs these big booth to show off their stuff and get the fans pumped.

Keep up your convention game and keep showing off at WonderCon.
