A president of the United States is receiving messages by mysterious means, and he doesn’t know whether to trust them. In this new Wooster Group production, directed by Elizabeth LeCompte and Kate Valk, Richard Foreman’s 1988 play is reimagined with a multilayered sound and video score that draws from wide-ranging literary and cinematic sources, including William Blake, D.H. Lawrence, and Charlie Chaplin. Set in a spaceship-museum gallery, this surreal production follows the president as he plunges into a series of encounters with otherworldly beings, among them a giant rat with a special message. Moving between the apocalyptic and the mundane, The Wooster Group considers how technology questions what it means to be human.

Mapping the Infinite: Cosmologies Across Cultures, created in collaboration with scientists at the Carnegie Observatories and the Griffith Observatory, presents a group of rare and visually stunning artworks from different cultures and time periods to explore the variety of human attempts to explain the universe’s origins, mechanics, and meaning. Nearly every ancient culture has seen the heavens as a mirror of cosmic structure and process, and ancient measurements of time were directly influenced by the movements of heavenly bodies. Mapping the Infinite reveals how, as religions evolved, cultures conceived of and depicted cosmic deities and concepts of time and space through works of art and sacred architecture. The exhibition illuminates this history of cosmologies around the globe from the Stone Age to the present, from Neolithic Europe to the present day and including Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, South and Southeast Asia, East Asia, the Islamic Middle East, the Indigenous Americas, Northern Europe, and the United States.

“Yes,
KAWAII is Art -EXPRESS YOURSELF-” is the first exhibition in which
Masuda, known as the “King of Kawaii,” brings together multiple artworks
unravelling the concepts within the phenomena while introducing his
personal story of sharing kawaii with the world. Through his collection
of artifacts from the origins of the culture and dazzling immersive art
installations, visitors are invited to explore the cultural context and
significance of the kawaii movement and step into the colorful world to
feel the aesthetic for themselves, emphasizing its role in fostering a
sense of joy, innocence, and community as a tool for self-expression and
representation of a worldwide tribe to which we can all belong.
