“Hello, I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such films as The Boatjacking of Supership 79 and Hydro: The Man With The Hydraulic Arms…”
If you’re a fan of “The Simpsons,” chances are you’re familiar with Springfield’s handsomest man and fish-philiac Troy McClure. Voiced by the legendary Phil Hartman, Troy was the host of dozens of TV show-within-a-show programs, infomercials, and telethons over the first ten seasons of the longest-running series on the air. Reaching the peak of his fame in the 1970s with a slew of celebrated B-films, Troy retired in 1998 to spend more time with his wife, the lovely Selma Bouvier, at Rancho Relaxo.
This summer, the American Cinematheque pays homage to Troy McClure with a series of some of his greatest genre performances.
