It's Friday, The Shabbat! Hebrew Horror Movies: The Offering & Attachment

Ever since The Vigil came out, we thought, "Oh, woah, a well-made Jewish horror movie." Then that director made the new Firestarter and we thought "Oy."

And yet recently, we've heard of two new Jewish horror films coming out this year.

First coming to theaters this January is The Offering.

"In the wake of a young Jewish girl’s disappearance, the son of a Hasidic funeral director returns home with his pregnant wife in hopes of reconciling with his father. Little do they know that directly beneath them in the family morgue, an ancient evil with sinister plans for the unborn child lurks inside a mysterious corpse."

and some time later coming to the Shudder streaming service is Attachment.
"ATTACHMENT is a horror romance about Maja, a has-been actress in Denmark, who falls in love with Leah, a young, Jewish academic visiting from the UK. When Leah suffers a mysterious seizure, Maja fears their whirlwind romance might be cut short and decides to follow Leah back to her home in London. There, Maja meets her new downstairs neighbour: Leah’s mother, Chana. An overbearing, seemingly religious and highly secretive woman, Chana seems resistant to all of Maja’s attempts to win her over. And as Maja notices strange occurrences in the building, she begins to suspect that Chana’s secrets could be much darker than first anticipated. Starring Josephine Park, Ellie Kendrick, Sofie Gråbøl and David Dencik, written and directed by Gabriel Bier Gislason."

Kind of odd both trailer still images are of blond women, but whatever. Hopefully, these Jewish horror films add to a growing collection of Hebrew Horror. Making good for a double feature or eventually a fun series from the American Cinematheque.
