Was checking out the horror film of people being trapped in cubes with deadly traps over Halloween and was surprised to learn that an American remake has been in the works since 2015 through Lionsgate. Odd, as it would be a remake of a Canadian film. Just launched is a new podcast from the two exec producers on it.
Cube came to my attention over Halloween as its director Vincenzo Natali just had his episode, The Graveyard Rats, of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities stream. I wanted to see if the director was better when he was younger and the answer is: not really, but Splice is still a good messed-up sci-fi film.
Even without any involvement from Vincenzo, gotta say it sounds really weird to be remaking it. Like, why remake it?
Japan just remade it, if you look below, which is also weird.
Still listening to the new podcast, the new film sounds like a total by-the-numbers, ridiculous action version of the original. And, to some people that sounds great.
They two producers are at least entertaining enough to keep you interested in the new film while driving or doing laundry. Give it a shot for something new to listen to. We do wonder what will happen next as they plot out the movie and everything else.
Hey, I'm one of the co-executive producers on the American remake of Cube from Lionsgate. Jonathan B is the name and producin' is my game. pic.twitter.com/B0V8beP6e3
