JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles will relaunch its popular film program series with a screening of the delectable 1985 “ramen western” Tampopo,
directed by Juzo Itami. The program will begin with a talk by renowned
music composer Kunihiko Murai, who served as the Music Director of the
film.
*You might have seen this one as a special screening we posted on years back or via an online streaming service. It fits the current Ramen exhibit at Japan House...but, boy is it a weird one. For what starts off about a friendly trucker teaching a single Mom about ramen we get some weird sexy moments from a fourth-wall breaking gangster. That doesn't account for the other little vignettes that are very specific to Japanese culture for the time like an overworked Mom, which is dark and out of nowhere.
