Back from the dead, another annual film fest is back in person.
*Gotta rip on the AFI site for not having a good guide. It's always nice to separate films by of genre, which the official site does not.

If you want to go straight up to messed-up maded maybe check out the film from Ninja, yeah, that's what they put as their first name, Thyberg. Ninja made the film Pleasure and it's...ooh boy.

Bella Cherry is an ambitious young woman. She arrives in Los Angeles from a small town in Sweden to pursue her dreams of stardom – in the adult film industry.

A times raw and explicit, PLEASURE explores a male-dominated industry from an uncompromising female point of view. Bella is confident and determined, but also naïve with her plans for fame. She negotiates power structures between her new friends and colleagues while navigating the grueling and psychological nature of the work. Writer-Director Ninja Thyberg crafts a powerful and authentic debut feature that challenges our ideas of consent, ambition and independence. –Sarah Harris

Probably one of our absolute favorite cons is back on track and IN-PERSON next weekend, DCON. The ever so expanded DesignerCon is taking place Nov 12th-14th at the Anaheim Convention Center. It's a bit of a schlep, but worth it. Especially, if you haven't gone to a con in so long.

As always asked, "Mr.LA, What's a DesignerCon?," What's a DesignerCon? How dare you ask me that...but, fine. It's an annual convention showing off art from artists you love online, vinyl toys and everything you want on Etsy, but without the shipping. Imagine a place you can get all the desk toys or special made art t-shirts you ever wanted, then imagine it being near Disneyland. I miss it being in Pasadena, sigh.

 Thinkspace Projects is thrilled to present Boris Anje’s (aka Anjel) latest body of work and U.S. solo debut, ‘Black is the Color of Gold.’ Featuring an entirely new collection of his vivid neo pop portraits of contemporary African dandies, this exhibition is wildly engaging. Oscar Joyo’s debut west coast solo show, ‘HOME_BODY.’ In this collection Joyo strikes a balance between honoring his Malawian heritage and the world around him, resulting in pieces that were created both for himself and a broader audience. Hiraeth is a Welsh word, meaning to miss/long for a place that you can never visit again. Shades, as used in this context, means a variety of emotions, even when those feelings are similar to each other, variously associated with thoughts, feelings, and behavioral response.

To celebrate the connection between Japanese graphic art and music, JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles will host Mr. Goodboy and their record cart in the gallery. Ryan Wilson co-founder of Mr. Goodboy will curate and DJ a selection of Japanese City Pop, Adult Oriented Rock, and fusion music from the 1980s in the Sub-Gallery and answer questions from visitors.
