this reimagining of the Greek myth Orpheus and Eurydice, the former is a
rock star and the latter is a dancer, who fall in love with each other
and get married. When the Euthanasia Broadcast Network, which is run by
the undead and which also zombifies their viewers, views the couple as
potential ratings boosters, Eurydice is murdered and her soul is taken
to the underworld.

film is simply just a night at a LA roller rink, designed to cash in on
the white-hot roller disco craze that had swept the nation. Too bad by

completely changed.

Now, we usually don't link to comicbook.com because they post headline articles with no substance or anyreal info quite often, but they brought up a great point from social media and the recent trailer for Marvel's The Eternals. Which is where were these "heroes" during the snap that wiped out half of humanity? The trailer is sort of setting them up as the pretentious jerks of the Marvel universe.
From the fan responses it looks like Marvel might have a hard sell on why these heroes matter or why we should even care about them. Other than Spider-Man No Way Home we don't care that much for this year's Marvel's slate of films.

The Skyslide up above us downtown on the US Bank Tower is gonna be removed (probably by helicopter) as some new owners just don't want to deal with it. They're giving the building a $60 million facelift and getting rid of it and will put a cafe all the way up there instead.
The slide has been closed since 2020. So, it really only operated for about 4 years. It was an overpriced tourist attraction, but a welcome one. It'll be missed.
Straight up, see it on Netflix if you have Netflix. Don't waste your money seeing it in the theater. Zack Snyder is becoming Michael Bay and somehow has made a less fun zombie movie decades after making a great one with Dawn of the Dead. That one was written by James Gunn and this...was penned by Bay,...I mean Synder. And it shows by nowhere being as funny, dark or even having characters you might like.
Essentially, Dave Bautista plays an everyman survived the downfall of Las Vegas being overrun with zombies with a few other survivors and know is on a mission to get money from a casino vault by going back into a walled Vegas with his friends and a new crew. The premise is fun, the execution is not.
On paper a vault heist with zombie guards sounds like fun. But, idiotic plot points, sappy close-up drama so thick I thought I'd choke on it and just wasting CGI money make this film a shame. I mean, I read how the effects team digitally reconstructed Las Vegas after mapping it out. I'm not sure why, that's not a major point of the movie and I can't recall the significance of why they did it after watching it.
Just to dump more on Zack, the movie looks like it was filmed by someone new to Hollywood, like maybe it's there first film. It's totally watchable on Netflix as one of their cheap films, but this movie cost $70-$90 million to make and it's just a waste.
Dumb, dumb movie to watch when bored over a few nights or an weekend evening.
Extra thoughts
-I thought Salma Hayek should have played the part of Dave Bautista's love interest Maria Cruz. Actress Ana de la Reguera seemed like she was just pretending to be Hayek.
-One of the zombies has robot parts in their head for some reason, no explanation online other than Zack probably thought it was a funny Easter Egg.
-A lot of logic problems on time, how easy it is to locate someone in a more than a hundred-room hotel, just how normal things work.
Who wasn't reading more during the pandemic? I know I grabbed everything I wanted to read off of Amazon. A few new titles just hit the shelves or are about too. And some came out you may have missed. I'm going over a few I just started reading and a few I just finished.
Press Reset: Ruin and Recovery in the Video Game Industry

Couldn't put this one down when I first got it, learning about the insider woes about making video games for the big studios or trying to make it as an indie. I saw an excerpt on Polygon and was hooked. Jason Schreier breaks down a person's past, tells you how they got their dream gig working on or making a big game like Bioshock Infinite or Epic Mickey and than just slams the breaks as everything crashes to an inevitable end. You feel their despair, but luckily it's not you. I've only done four chapters so far, but each goes in length of the nightmares of people just trying to get funding or dealing with the corporate side of 2k and Disney. Treating people like cogs in a machine and not like people seems like a unending trend. Can't wait to finish and read even more depressing tales of woe on how some of my favorite video games were made and their awful sequels were churned out.
Bite-sized un-made movie lore is like chocolate cupcakes to a cinephile like me. And this book has a sweet taste, though I thought it was gonna be more filling like a chocolate cake. Josh sets up what sounds like some sort of another timeline universe where theses movies would have come out, but then just clacks the clapperboard and literally puts ,"CUT!" in the book. Then you find out why the film couldn't get made. The stories are all a short enough read and not sorted by genre or year, so you can really just look up anything that floats your boat. Though it doesn't delve that deep, people have written entire books online about individual films in here and what happened, you get what you need and then perhaps a frown because it sounds like a fun idea. It's probably already made me want to watch even more movies from just what I've missed. And we get the treat of never-made movie posters from the art collective PosterSpy for each film. Ugh, I'm still pissed about the un-made Alien 5 from Neill Blomkamp. Prometheus has a lot to answer for.
For any horror fan a book about the burgeoning relationship between a vampire girl and werewolf guy might have never been as spoopy. And that means cute scary. These two monsters of the night are kind of like a young couple, though one is more than 300 years old. It's like a beautiful sitcom that never aired with many jokes based on all we fear and make fun of these monster tropes. And this vampire chick loves her doggy woggy boyfriend when he transforms. It's a series of black and white comics that have such a cute macabre feel that you can't pass them up.
Not sure if this will be the last collection of Richard Sala's work or not, it was strange to see it came out earlier this month as Sala recently passed away in 2020. I know his work from multiple graphic novels releases over the years and when I was little from the pages of Nickelodeon Magazine. He loved drawing horror and sexy girls, a nice mix. His latest book is an odd mix, it's got four stories with not much in common and some I would say are just delightful gallery photos and not full fledged comics. First up is a story of a telekinetic girl and an insidious hero, turned villain with a creepy conspiracy. Second is a gallery of monster drawings with a nice little wrap-a-round story. Third is about a terrible time for some topless cave girls, which is less a comic and more a storybook. Finally, we end with a young woman fighting a stronghold of bad guys trying to get to the top. Each story shows off Sala's love for horror, sci-fi and fantasy and makes you think of how he was probably shaped by way too many genre movies and television. Here's hoping the rest of his work is collected in one final tomb.

This is happening as a conflict where Palestine took terrorist actions against Israel and Israel defended itself are ongoing. Look up multiple news sources if you want a play by play of what happened. In our opinion Israel defended itself and continues too.
An article over at gaming website Kotaku bashed Israel over the current conflict but won't let comments be open to discuss it. This is unlike all other articles on the site that allow comments. Kotaku probably knows if they did open comments it be a crazy back and forth. But, site Jezebel, a sister site, who wrote a similar article in tone, at least left it's comment system open. Both articles are definitely one-sided and show no signs of real journalism, not reporting the facts, but spinning them. Jezebel's write-up on a tweet by Gal Gadot that's so luke-warm that it's completely insane to gain any support for either side with it, is some of the worst written speculative writing we've ever seen.
When web-sites like Kotaku and Jezebel both take a heavy one-sided tone and say it in the guise of "it's about children" it can lead to empowering people to start hate crimes and supporting the wrong people. Those articles could have just been requests to get charity for children, but instead they incite people. They give a one-sided slant that doesn't go over anything that Palestine has done against Israel and the awful murders and bombings they've inflicted on the Jewish people over the decades as terrorists.

matter how absurd, the folks at Smiling Friends will send
representatives cynical Charlie and star employee Pim to save the day. Smiling Friends is
a quarter-hour animated series created, written and produced by Cusack
and Hadel and will premiere on Adult Swim later this year.
Royal Crackers is a
half-hour animated series that follows two brothers: Stebe, a family
man with a wife and child; and Theo Jr., a single, bass guitar player
trying to relive his glory days. Together they live in their comatose
father’s house waiting for him to die (he never does) so they can
inherit his cracker company empire. Royal Crackers is created
by Ruiz who also serves as executive producer along with Seth Cohen. The
series is produced by Titmouse and will premiere on Adult Swim in 2022.
And Adult Swim isn't stopping there we're also getting digital shorts for things we didn't ask for.

-Have to say, the selection is still going strong on drama and not celebrating the more fun films from India that people see clips from on the Internet. Maybe, it's the selection committee or maybe it's who submitting, but nothing has really driven us to go out of our way for it.
The 19th edition of the festival will be held virtually and geo-blocked to California on May 20–27. This year IFFLA features a total of 40 films, including 21 shorts, spanning 17 languages.
