Expository monologues – the long speeches delivered by a character to provide backstory or motivation – can be the downfall or the showstopper of a horror film, and there’s at least one in a vast majority. The purpose of all these soliloquies is an extended, intense effort to overcome the unusually high threshold of disbelief concomitant with the horror genre, generally in an attempt to answer questions for the audience like: How is this possible? Why did she do this – and in such a convoluted and oblique way? Why is this not a plot hole?

Walking the Space: Spatial Environments, 1948 – 1968,’ the US debut of the first comprehensive presentation of Lucio Fontana’s (1899 – 1968) groundbreaking ‘Ambienti spaziali’ (Spatial Environments). Fontana, a visionary whose revolutionary practice continues to influence contemporary movements worldwide, conceived of his first environmental work in 1948, predating the conceptual achievements of Robert Irwin, James Turrell, and Donald Judd by more than a decade.

Join us for the public opening of critically admired, NY-based Swiss artist Nicolas Party’s first LA solo exhibition. Comprised of new paintings, sculptures, site-specific murals, and an architectural installation, ‘Sottobosco’ conjures the shadowy world of the forest floor in a brilliant pastel universe where subject, form, and time collapse into visual splendor.

A continuation of the artist's critically admired 2019 exhibition at Fort Gansevoort New York, Soviet Childhood will works that evoke the specific social realities of mundane Soviet daily life, while uncovering the complex phenomenon of nostalgia that affects the final generation of Soviet children.

Luchita Hurtado: I Live I Die I Will Be Reborn presents the first career survey of paintings and works on paper by multifaceted artist Luchita Hurtado (Venezuela, b. 1920).  This exhibition will introduce museum audiences to several distinct bodies of work, including Hurtado’s early forays into abstraction, her consistent use of the body as a subject, her experiments with language, and her recent engagement with issues of environment and ecology.
