Coming out this May is a series of new shorts featuring the Looney Tunes. And, well, honestly it looks amazing, it looks like what The Cuphead Show! should look like, but the last time I checked they were still hiring animators for Cuphead, so probably not out this year. This year, we do get the Looney Tunes Cartoons available on HBO MAX. And, yes, that's it's official easy going name, "Looney Tunes Cartoons." This year is a lot of "if it works, use it" mentality. New ideas, new IPs...Disney is gonna try with Owl House.
Looney Tunes Cartoons has Pete Browngardt, best known for Uncle Grandpa in charge, meaning he's an executive producer and possibly the show/series runner. Now, he's a good animator, just not a great writer, so we'll have to see what his final product will be.
There's only 1 teaser online, seen above, but you have to admit it looks like something made way back in the 30's. Such wonderful violence.
So pro, is that it looks great. Con is, we have so little to go on if the rest will be good and WB animation has had a lot of garbage with Looney Tunes over the years, not capturing the humor or style on many occasions. Did you know there was a series called New Looney Tunes? Of course you didn't, because no one cared.
Let's hope these are good and some even play before WB movies in the theater, because if I see an ad for something in a theater, I'm, gonna think it's garbage. Give me cartoons!
