So...instead, the field at the stadium will be called United Airlines Field. Coliseum keeps its name.
Many veterans and other folks were angry that the Memorial Coliseum was going to be renamed United Airlines Coliseum. It was first named as a memorial in memory to those who died in World War I. And years ago was given to USC, which know runs it. It went under many renovations and many of those were under question over where money went, but that's a whole other story. Fast forward to USC trying to make some easy money with some naming rights to pay off the stadium...not to mention a number of pending legal problems. In this atmosphere they faced a new problem, people not liking a stadium being renamed after a pretty sub-par airline. So, to keep the money or at least some of it, the contract was for 16 years, now it's 10, the named the field after the airline.
All hail the United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum...so dumb.
