Anime Expo 2019 Field Trip with Your Dad

Hey Kids,

I'm AX Dad, I'll be your guide to AX this year and make sure your having a good time. I"ll be making sure your safe around AX, so go ahead and look for me at AX if you need adult or someone to just listen. I'll be with my fellow fathers to make sure you're okay.

I've been having my son look into what to check out for AX and writing it up for me as I'm not so good with computers. Here's what I've spotted while looking at the schedule my son printed out for me.

Which magical fireman movies are you ablaze for? TRIGGER's Promare Premiere & Panel or the  Funimation Presents Fire Force World Premiere with Creator Atsushi Ohkubo?
These look hot kids, real hot. Cool, wouldn't be the correct term, would it, because they're so hot.

Now I'll have other updates, but for now here some tips.

Eat your packed lunch, because the food nearby is all overpriced and Dads and Moms like me made you a healthy and nutritious lunch. L.A. Live food is both overpriced and taste like shoes and not good shoes, shoes that have been in doo-doo water.

Here's places to eat my son posted on before that are affordable and actually have taste.

Now, don't fret, but there will be lines.

Like, what was written on your parent's permission slips bring snacks, bring your Switch, 3DS and even your Vita as you will be in a line at some point.

As scary as it is, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS. If they're in the same line as you. then the must like the same stuff. Or at least also need to pee.

It's not so crazy to  think about bringing portable board and card games.

Don't wait, just buy parking if you're okay waling. It's gonna cost $25 or more to park there and they don't even give you a free drink.

The people working there made bad decisions kids, so don't fight with them on price, they don't have control over it they barely have control over there on lives.

There are a number of services online like ParkWhiz and Parking Panda to buy your spot ahead of time. There's going to be a lot of wait time searching for a place to park, especially if you're gonna look for a cheaper price. Avoid the hassle and just know where you need to go.

Don't forget the app.

I can't deny it's useful ,it's an app with all the info about AX in the palm of your hand. No idea if it'll stay updated with all the latest on schedule changes, but let's hope it can. I won't be able to figure it out, but you kids will.

Oh and don't forget to bathe. You guys can stink something fierce.

* AX Dad's son here
It's not complicated. If you do stink, people should be allowed to be make fun of you because you've made a decision as a person not try while surrounded by others. Basically, your as bad as a smoker. And in this city, that makes you garbage...which you kind of smell like if you don't bath and use deodorant.

Don't think your phone battery won't die, it will. it will.

Yeah, you've go to remember this is a full day for most people and that means you"ll be in line, trying to contact friends, looking on social media about AX and a number of other battery draining situations. It's gonna drain your phone. So partition it out, turn it off if your not using it or set aside time to charge it if you're planning to be there all day. Because you can't call someone to pick you up or meet up if your phone's dead.

Check any of our previous posts on AX updates here.

Movie Hype July: Drafthouse Details, AGFA Screenings, Video Game Features

-Alamo Drafthouse is still set to open this July, no official date yet. We do have some details about the theaters and a film watching program.

First off, let's break down what'll be at the Drafthouse here. There will be twelve auditoriums each with a 4k laser projector. One theater will have a good ol' 35mm projector. A bar and kitchen for food and drink for the movies. Video Vortex, a bar/video rental store will also be a part of the place. The press release noted free rentals, but didn't explain how that would be done.

Alamo Season Pass will also be going on here, it's a program where you can watch a movie a day and reserve seats for a monthly subscription fee. You can try and get into it here.

Another note, Ash Minnick was named in charge of  Drafthouse’s flagship tabletop gaming community initiative here in LA. Many LA people like board games and game cafes, so it'll be interesting to see Drafthouse behind game nights or community events.

-AGFA ( American Genre Film Archive) or better known as much of the batsh*t insane section of Cinefile is having a special six-movie spectacle over at UCLA's Billy WIld Theater. What got my attention most of all was a screening of Don't Panic, a messed-up Mexican version of Nightmare on Elm Street with teenagers that looks like adults, because they are. I heard about this one from the horror news and reviews, Shock Waves Podcast...and sure enough they're apart of it. They're filming a live episode with the screening and chatting with the director.

That's only one night of the movies AGFA is bringing. You have a bunch of double features like Lady Terminator/Sister Street Fighter. Two ultra-violent, so-bad-it's-good films with babes that make little sense when it comes to logic. Every night is a great night to see with a group of friends and wonder how any of these were allowed to be made.

Check out each wonderful night for strange Summer viewing content at the link below.

Catch A Thrill! Ten Years of the American Genre Film Archive
July 12- Aug 17
Billy Wilder Theater, 10899 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90024
$10 per screening

 July 14, 2019 - 7:00 pm

Director Steve De Jarnatt in -person.

Also taking place at the Billy Wilder is the 30th anniversary screening of a Miracle Mile (1989). I found out about this LA cult favorite from a fossil cleaner of the La Brea Tar Pits. It's a story about love and what would happen before nukes go off in LA...and maybe do go off. It's pretty messed up.

You have two classic video game movies in one night. "It's so bad," and other classic lines will be on the ready. So grab your power gloves and get out.

Nickelodeon's Utterly Weird Handling of The Casagrandes

We love animation over here at TTDILA. Amphibia, you're doing great. What's not doing great in animation is the utterly weird handling of The Loud House spin-off The Casagrandes. For some strange reason The Loud House theme song plays in full and then an episode with The Casagrandes will play on Nick. I can't recall any other show or cartoon doing this this before. Because it's stupid.

*The Loud House is the story of one boy who has ten sisters. The spin-off is about a multi-generational Mexican family.

Technically, the show hasn't premiered. So, these full episodes about a completely separate family are Loud House episodes? Weird. Also, that doesn't make sense.

An example of how this could be replicated is let's say Amphibia, which comes from some of the people who worked on Gravity Falls had the Gravity Falls theme play before that show. I mean, I guess you could argue for Casagrandes being a spin-off and being a little more connected than a spiritual successor or familiar joke show, but this is pathetic on it not being allowed to be its own show.

I can only guess that The Casagrandes is seen to be so weak by Nick execs that they kids need to be reminded it came from The Loud House every time it airs. Once again, I've never seen a show's theme song play for another show, except that horrible spin-off attempt for Stranger Things last season. Which, is dead now, because everyone hated them wasting our time.

Nickelodeon, you have become one of the most scared networks in some time. Instead of showing the Rocko and Invader Zim specials on your own networks/streaming service you sold it to Netflix as you thought viewing numbers would be so bad on your own stuff.

Now your too afraid to show a spin-off cartoon? Nick, your one scared network.

LA Links: Wizards, Adult Swim Festival, Bad Bus Riding

-Weird new escape game called Forgotten Chains to try at Two Bit Circus. You're a wizard and your chained to a table. Now escape by solving puzzles!

-Adult Swim Festival is coming back to LA this November. You can buy tickets now for $49, plus probably hidden fees. I think you get to see new Rick and Morty epsiodes before anyone else if you go.

-Taco Bell Hotel in Palm Springs booked in 2 minutes. So, if you wanted that taco bed feeling, it's gone. via CNBC

-New exhibit at MAF, Obsidian Ladder open now.

"Donna Huanca’s OBSIDIAN LADDER triggers the senses through painting, sculpture, sound, scent, and performance. This new topography, which is strikingly different from the rest of the building, transports visitors to another world—a femme realm of reconciliation, creation and trust."

-LA isn't doing well getting people to ride the bus, because Metro kind of sucks.

-Alita Battle Angel did not do good in theaters. Fox Home is trying to salvage that at AX with some random ideas at AX. The best is a mural that seems like you can put yourself in it when taking photos across the street from the convention. Or at least we think that what it means from the press release:

WHAT:           Across the street from the convention center, artist Cloe Hakakian is painting an amazing manga inspired mural that embodies the essence and humanity of Alita. There will also be an interactive AR component that will surprise and delight fans and passers by alike! There will also be a panel for consumers to put themselves in the mural.

The Bell: Taco Bell Hotel Pop-Up In Palm Springs Details

Yes, yes, munch, munch, look up from your burrito, kind sir or madame, if you haven't heard, Taco Bell we'll have a pop-up hotel in Palm Springs this August. It has been dubbed The Bell: Taco Bell Hotel & Resort. We just got more details and info when you can reserve your room this June. And we suggest you get tickets as early as possible because many people will want to say they stayed and
"Netflix and chilled" at it.

Bro, I ate the sickest special edition quesadilla and made out with the hottest chick after. I mean her mouth was filled with hot sauce...it burned.

So, right into it. You can reserve rooms on Thursday, June 27 starting at10 AM PT / 1 PM ET  here. It's only gonna be for five days, Aug 8-12, so you don't have much time to grab a night. It'll be at 333 E. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, California and starts at $169 a night. And there's only 70 rooms available. 18+

You're getting two really great experiences by going
1. a Taco Bell-themed hotel and 2. special Taco Bell eats.

The overall theme of the hotel breaks down into not only a stylish and silly look based on Taco Bell, great for posting pics. There's performances by live music acts, dive-in movies, which means poolside and a “Freeze Lounge,” inspired by, get this product placement synergy, Mountain Dew Baja Blast, which will offer ice cold drink in a "chill" lounge, which better mean it's made of ice, but will probably just be air conditioned.

Yum, yum with your fun as there's suppose to be a special take on your breakfast in bed and pretty much everything else. There's gonna be special pool side taco bell cuisine. And apparently more details on the eats will go up in July.

So, try and grab a room so you can say you drove out to Palm Springs to go to the Taco Bell hotel, people will have questions. We'll have questions. Your family we'll have questions. I mean the jokes about needing to go to the bathroom.
