Grammy Award-winning artist Seu Jorge performs a
very special tribute to David Bowie. Seu Jorge rose to international
fame in the Wes Anderson film The Life Aquatic. In
his acclaimed role as Pelé dos Santos, a singing sailor, Jorge
performed several of Bowie’s songs. In a twist, he did it in Portuguese,
accompanying himself simply on acoustic guitar. Jorge’s adaptations of
these songs underscore the breadth and depth of the compositions and
have gone on to have a significant cultural impact in Brazil and beyond.

Roberts Projects is thrilled to present Something Blue,
an exhibition of selected artworks by Betye Saar from 1983 to 2018. All
of the works on view feature the color blue as a means to explore such
concepts as magic, voodoo, and the occult. In her new assemblages dating
from 2018, Saar revisits the holistic inclusion of various religious
objects, totems, talismans and charms in the materiality
and temporality of her work. This focus on the mystic shares space with
her familiar motifs including derogatory black collectibles, outlines of
her hand, and personal and familial objects.

In 1970, legendary director Orson Welles (Citizen Kane) began
filming what would ultimately be his final cinematic opus with a cast of
luminaries that included John Huston, Peter Bogdanovich, Susan
Strasberg, and Welles’s partner during his later years, Oja Kodar. Beset
by financial issues, the production ultimately stretched to 1976 and
soon gained industry-wide notoriety, never to be completed or released.
More than a thousand reels of film languished in a Paris vault until
March 2017, when producers Frank Marshall (who served as a production
manager on Wind during its initial shooting) and Filip Jan
Rymsza spearheaded efforts to have Welles’s vision completed more than
30 years after his death.
