Space is thrilled to start 2018 with a floor-to-ceiling interactive
psychedelic textile cave by Laurie Shapiro. Shapiro spent over 1000
hours sewing by hand and painting the ceiling and wall segments of
“Before You Were Born.” The show will also include a selection of
recent mixed media paintings that seamlessly flow within the
environment.

Admission to the new year celebration featuring Japanese and Japanese
American performances, crafts, and activities is free and all ages are
welcome
Highlights of the day will include a Japanese-style lion dance; two mochitsuki
(rice pounding) demonstrations, with mochi samples for tasting; a
drawing demonstration and book signing by comic book creator Stan Sakai,
famous for his Usagi Yojimbo series; and sample bowls of lucky zaru soba
(cold buckwheat noodles) to bring good health in the New Year. There
will also be a variety of craft activities, book readings, souvenir
photos, a koto performance, and more.

New Year celebration, will welcome 2018 and celebrate the Year of the
Dog. Curated by Master Artist in Residence, Hirokazu Kosaka,
Kotohajime features stunning performances and live music, including
ritual shooting of the arrow, breaking the sake barrel, and traditional
and contemporary dance and performances.

Six audience volunteers will be called forth to go upon a quest. They
will overcome dangerous obstacles, cast spells, solve riddles, and fight
horrific monsters, all for YOUR entertainment.
The
Scraper of the Sky was a colossal being that brought an end to the
Second Age of Atoll. A powerful wizard has found a way to awaken the
sleeping monstrosity. Tyco Springrocket, a brilliant gnome inventor, has
created a device that fuses magic with science which could possibly
defeat the giant. Now if only they can acquire a power source...
