Los
Angeles has more cats than any city in the country--but how much do you
know about them? Hear the strange and storied history of Southern
California cats in this lecture and slideshow by bon vivant historian
and receptacle of obscure knowledge, Dr. Paul Koudounaris. Did you know .
. . the first cats documented as living in the region tolled the church
bells at a Spanish mission? Or that Los Angeles has more cat ghost
stories than anywhere in the world, including a once famous black cat
named Beelzebub who haunted the Ambassador Hotel?

Pop Aye is the charming yet poetically profound story of
once-successful Bangkok architect Thana (Thaneth Warakulnukroh), who is
disillusioned with his job and his life at home. One day, as he wanders
the city, he chances upon an elephant whom he recognizes as Pop Aye, his
beloved childhood friend from their rural home town, named after a
favorite cartoon. Impulsively buying the elephant on the spot, Thana
decides to take him back home, 300 miles away in the Thai countryside. Pop Aye was a crowd-pleaser at the Sundance Film Festival,
where it won the Screenwriting Award in the World Cinema Dramatic
Competition.

Programs! The 35th anniversary of Disney's classic Tron is approaching,
and what better way to show our love an admiration of this
under-appreciated franchise than to meet up at the filming location used
for Flynn's Arcade?! If there's enough people, it might get the
attention of the files at Disney to make Tron 3 happen!
