The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses is returning in 2017 and coming to Hollywood with an updated orchestral adventure! The show will feature an all new movement from Skyward Sword, a much-anticipated Breath of the Wild arrangement, and the return of a classic that might just make some wishes come true!

Celebrating 30 years of stirring virtual adventure and memorable soundtracks with live orchestral renditions directly approved by franchise producer Eiji Aonuma, The Symphony of the Goddesses is now in its fourth season. The two-hour concert comes to life with a 66-piece orchestra, 24-person choir, and a reimagined score that draws from recent and requested Zelda games, including A Link Between Worlds, Twilight Princess, and the remake of Majora’s Mask, while still paying homage to such classics as Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past.

The concert’s five-movement symphony regales ears with Nintendo composer Koji Kondo’s original music, recalling moments of Link conquering dungeons, running through forests, and struggling to decide what color tunic to wear.

Throughout the evening, a video collage syncs up with the adventurous tunes to spotlight exciting moments from the venerable franchise.

The Museum of Ice Cream April 22 - May 29

Soon we all may be screaming for ice cream as The Museum of Ice Cream will be opening up this April. The museum of ice cream has a soft serve spot in our heart after being reported on in New York, where it first showed off its creamy goodness. Angelenos love ice cream and they'll be able to get a taste when it opens April 22nd.

Coming from the press release, there's going to be interactive highlights that include:

 a “banana split” comprised of ten thousand "bananas", a mint "grow house", a room
dedicated to California, a melted popsicle jungle and more. The iconic swimmable sprinkle pool returns filled with one hundred million sprinkles that were custom designed and produced by Museum of Ice Cream!

You'll also get two ice creams with your admission.

On top of that many local artisal ice cream makers will be having scoops of the week runs. So you'll want to say what you tasted on your trip as it will, sadly melt away into summer.

A Trip To The 14th Factory

We saw Simon Birch go buy with a mug, joking with his workers about keeping their eyes open so no one sits down. From what was overheard, a large fellow sat down and broke a stool, the pictures of this criminal sitter are suppose to be floating on Instagram. Why that matters so much is because the room in question, where the criminal attack upon an ottoman occurred, is taken straight out of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and nothing in there should be broken by someone trying to snag a selfie. It's one of the exhibits at the 14th Factory, an art exhibit near a no longer functioning jail covered in graffiti near downtown.

We weren't sure we were in the right place until we saw the flags and the ramps leading up to the gallery, really, a no longer in use factory that did Chinese importing. Now, now it was a playground and a haunted house for patrons to look at. A place where selfies were needed every few steps. The one standing out the most, possibly the sci-fi recreation of a room where time's meaning seems to falter and more than one of you can be.

Off with your shoes and in you go for your timed session in the bedroom from 2001. It seems the love Stanely Kubrick got a few years ago at LACMA with his own special show hasn't stopped. The iconic room where Dr. David Bowman sees himself growing older and in more than one place is now something you can visit in real life.

 

You can be part of the neoclassic architecture if you can only get past the meteor that it's housed in. "The Meteor" as dubbed by its creator Simon Birch, who passed by us, a mug in hand, worried about fat people breaking chairs, brought the exhibit together with an international list of artists. One of his pieces looks like thought and word bubbles were painted black and fell from the sky and were collected in a pile. That's "The Meteor" that houses 2001. 

 

It's sort of like a dream mentality of flowing through each piece. Much of the passages are dark or suddenly lead you to a new dream. Like past the darkness of "The Meteor" we found ourselves in a new section. The moon was in the center.

Or at least a park with the landscape of the moon with swings. And people were swinging on them and you might have guessed they hadn't in a while. The nostalgia and the fun kicked as we swayed back and forth, only gaining enough momentum when getting a push. In the middle of the factory we were swinging and it was a lot of fun. 

 

This area was called the Garlands, it has so much going on if you learn it's design idea, but if you just wanted to ride a swing it's a delightful scene. On too much going, we mean a trail of poppies in the lunar park is suppose to represent the boundary lines imposed by the Chinese Qing Empire when it was illegal to visit other countries, that's a lot for swings in the center of a factory. On a more relaxed level it captured the nostalgia of youth and added the idea of having a moon park to us.

Strangely many pieces have more than one connection, many from music and film concocted and connected to ideas and feelings the artists had. A bit of a connection to Marvel comic characters seemed to show up more than once. Though the fight seen in "The Inhumans" piece is also a name for super-powered Marvel characters it was shown as a video installation of a massive brawl of 300 Chinese men not wearing shirts fighting each other. The fight, which could been choreographed better, as the fight instantly was made fun of by another patron saying, "When does it become an orgy?"It doesn't. It repeats on six screens at different angles with no reason as to why the men are fighting or who is good or bad.

"Hypercaine" is a piece that made us feeling like visiting a church. A church of fallen kings. A wide swatch of different crowns are before you. You can study them or pray to them with  benches in front of them. The different crowns made of different materials were created by artists to represent what we seek to collect on our journeys or a mythical adventure.

The overall connection to each piece from the words written out for whomever is visiting is a connected story of heroism and mythology. To us, it seems like a much more tighter connection to those artists feelings on certain subject or multiple subjects. 

 

The name of the places comes from "Thirteen Factories" of 18th century Canto Region and how trade worked well between them even though they were of different nations. The main idea of the 14th Factory is to show off how art canreclaim and underutilized area.

Did it? It's an entertaining exhibit that might have you thinking you're own ideas, like these artists had about mythological heroism and transforming on your journey.

 

WonderCon 2017 Update: 3 Day Badges Sold-Out

Well, 3 Day Badges are gone now too. So if you were planning for whatever DC movie reveal was gonna happen on Saturday, you're as lucky as Superman in his last movie.

The parking page updated too, we have a huge Disney lot nearby to fill up, it just might be a slosh to get in with so many people coming.

LA's Last Mall Arcade Gets A Continue

You may remember we reported earlier this month that the All Amusement Fun Center was closing April 15th, however, after community support and some negotiations the store should be re-opening on the third floor of Burbank Mall in June. As reported by LA Weekly, enough people gave their support and e-mailed the current owners of the mall, which is going through major renovations, that talks opened between the owners of the mall and Jim Rowton, owner of All Amusement Fun Center.
The talks paid off and the arcade looks like it will remain part of the Burbank community. You'll be able to shoot dinosaurs and ninja cyborg terrorists and try and earn tickets for prizes this summer.

*The arcade will still be temporarily closing April 15th until it reopens later this Summer
*Not everything is fully complete with the deal, but ti's more than likely over.

Guardians of the Galaxy Double Feature Screenings

You can already pre-order tickets to double features of Guardians of the Galaxy and Vol 2, hitting theaters this May. Now...they also have an Ultimate Ticket, we've seen this before with Interstellar. For $100 you can see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 once a day for as long as it's running with this ticket, that comes looking like a cassette.

The Huntington Has Views This Spring

Over the weekend we visited The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens as the wisteria was in bloom. It wasn't the only flower showing off its colors. The wide ranging gardens are perfect to visit  this Spring with flowers and plants to study all over the different gardens. Rivaling the natural beauty is the art available, some of which is older the America itself.

For something new however you may want to visit the Orbit Pavilion. In the shape of a shell, this metal structure releases the sounds of passing satellites that NASA is using to study the Earth. Drop in to hear a soundtrack reminiscent of an ambient indie sci-fi video game. In the center of the structure is a screen that tells you what satellites are supposedly flying over head.

We're not sure how accurate the Orbit Pavilion is, if it's using GPS to really track satellites or even if a structure with so many holes in it amplifies or does anything to the sound being generated. It's more on the artistic end than scientific, we would have like a lot more of a scientific connection than a room of chip-tune sounds.

You can hear the sounds of rushing water in the Chinese Gardens. The expansive area has wonderful Chinese architecture and surroundings to take photos of or just get lost in the beauty of. Truly some wonderful sights from the bridge to a small waterfall.

It has it's own restaurant, Freshwater Dumpling and Noodle House, which we can't say we recommend. It has a small menu and a very ugly aesthetic when it comes to seating and tables. If hungry we say go further in to the larger 1919 Cafe or if feeling a bit more fancy the Rose Garden Tea Room.

The Japanese Garden isn't far from the Chinese Garden and stands out with it's bamboo and the spotty coloreful koi underneath its bridge. You also have the majesty of the desert to explore with  strange cacti and the Jungle, Palm and Subtropical Gardens all showing their own indigenous flowers. Though only one we have to say was not up to par, Australia, it was our least favorite of the gardens.

The Huntington just isn't gardens though it has some truly magnificent art to be stunned by. 18th- and 19th-century British paintings are still so utterly engaging, you could argue the ones the have on view are the selfies of yesteryear, though only for the rich.

If you need a place to get away from the city, to smell the flowers and see what nature can offer. Just the open air and trees made us feel fortunate to be there. Take the time to leave the valley or the city and enjoy nature.
