Inspired by the plethora of them around every corner in Japan is our very own "koban" or police box that recently opened up at The Grove in June. From the video (autoplays), that NBC4 took, you can see the unveiling did in fact go off with a hitch as the sheet covering it got hitched on the word "Grove."
The police box is to be staffed by two cops and is open from noon to to 10pm daily.
The benefits of such police boxes are obvious: cutting down crime by just being there, helpful information and easy access to help if there's a problem nearby.
NBC4 also reports of one in Little Tokyo, but is actually just the Little Tokyo Information Center, which for some reason also has koban in the title even though it has no police in it.
