The Cannibal Opens

The new, hungry for meat restaurant opens tonight, May 31. It's a butcher shop, a restaurant and a place to get beer and it's all been done successfully before in New York, where its sister stores reside. Don't worry, if you don't want a fancy meal you can just get a sandwich to go.

There are photos of the interior online from Eater and LA Mag.

At this time, we have no news as what the new owners will do with the site or what kind of restaurant/prices will be and when anything will open.

So, if you want possibly the best view of LA with delicious sushi and steak go up the mountain one last time.

However, there is a more limited menu as they're not restocking, so call ahead to make sure.

LA Film Festival 2016 Top Picks

The LA Film Festival will start this Wednesday with a large collection of films. We're into horror and macabre here at TTDILA so our favorite section is Nightfall. Now we did look far and wide for films in the other categories, but couldn't find anything getting with big buzz from other festivals or sounding amazing in their own right. We mean An Evening with...The People V. O.J. Simpson, doesn't sound great, it also has nothing to do with film.

So with that were going over our top choices and telling you to go over the festival's guide too.

Beyond The Gates is our top pick, because of its great concept about a horror VCR video game bringing back two brothers who have been estranged. Oh, and the game will probably release a Hell of 80's horror movie monsters on them.

"Two estranged brothers reunite at their missing father’s video store to liquidate the property and sell off its assets. As they dig through the store, they find a VCR board game that holds a mysterious connection to their father’s disappearance—and deadly consequences for anyone who plays it."

So it'll be a clusterf*ck of 80's horror movies in one movie. We don't how capable the director is. We believe it's director Jackson Stewart's first feature film.

Abattoir, sounds like a fun real estate horror movie, LA's real estate market is a real horror show. Someone is building a haunted house by taking pieces of houses where murders or "accidents" occurred.

"Julia, an investigative reporter with the style and confidence of a young Bacall, happens upon a series of gruesome murders tied to real estate mysteries, where entire rooms have been dismantled and pulled from their foundations. The fact that those rooms were the exact settings for heinous tragedies sets Julia and hardboiled cop Joe on a search for the unimaginable. The stakes go up when it suddenly becomes very personal in this stylized and increasingly horrifying modern-noir."

We want to see a trailer for Officer Downe about an over-the-top cop in LA fighting crime before giving it our recommendation. From director Shawn “Clown” Crahan, of Slipknot fame, we have no idea what to make of it other than the great premise of an officer for the LAPD who has to keep coming back to life.

"A young rookie cop is tasked with shadowing Officer Downe, an LAPD cop waging a war to clean up the streets of Los Angeles. Officer Downe’s foes comprise of a cadre of super villains, including the criminal syndicate of humanoid beasts dubbed the Fortune 500, Mother Supreme and her gun-toting nuns, and kung fu overlord Zen Master Flash. The rookie soon learns that you can’t keep a good cop down, as Office Downe takes a licking and keeps on ticking, again, and again, and again…"
Now, there are some free screenings, including the original Ghostbusters, so check them out.

The LA Film Festival is Jun 1-9 at Multiple Theaters, mainly at ArcLight Culver City. An average ticket is $16

Search Party Quick Review Dumb Fun Comedy Adventure

Search Party stars two dudes from HBO's Silicon Valley, T.J. Miller and Thomas Middleditch. The comedy friends are in a lot of work together and are joined by some other familiar faces from TV including Alison Brie (Community), Jason Mantzoukas (HTGM Podcast) and Jon Glaser (Parks and Rec.) I'm name dropping because if you like anyone of those comedians indie work with even more cameos you'll want to rent this one. The story is indisputably tying to cash in on the Hangover films with three friends having weird encounters and trials on the way in and out of Mexico.

Now this is a comedy to rent on the weekend and chill with friends to. It's a series of mishaps and comedian run-ins after T.J. Miller's character, Jason ruins Thomas Middleditch's character's, Daniel "Nardo's" wedding. Nardo's pissed off to-be heads to Mexico alone on his honeymoon and he goes to ask her to take him back. Nardo gets robbed of everything on his way to see her, including his clothes, so it's up to Jason and Adam Pally as Evan, his best friends and room-mates, to save him. What follows is a hilariously stupid adventure.

An adventure with a naked Thomas Middleditch, drugs and a bunch of other tropes of comedy films, yet, it's still better than a depressing an over-the-budget Adam Sandler movie.

Oddly enough it came out in 2014...in the Netherlands. Universal sat on it for two years before releasing it in the states for anybodies guess? It just came out for the first time this May.

I'm unsure about the $6.99 price tag for rental, but can say it'll be worth it when it goes down in price, as it's available through almost all streaming services.
Amazon

I don't even recommend seeing the trailer as it ruins most of the jokes.

The Bunnies Are Coming This June

The Bunnies are coming, the bunnies are coming. Downtown LA has a nice amount of events happening downtown this June to get you hopping over. Intrude is one of them, a seven day event from Arts Brookfield and Australian artist Amanda Parer showcasing larger-than-life inflatable bunnies that glow.

The over-two-stories tall bunnies will be in three areas around downtown LA ending with a party called Quiet Disco Under the Bunny Glow on June 10. It's a EDM music, silent party, meaning you can only hear it on headphones. Some of the restaurants are getting in the mood for the party and will be serving special bunny themed menus at FIGat7th's food court the night of the disco.

Oh God No, Creepy Bug Eyes Rila Fukushima Added to Ghost In the Shell

Ughh, I thought she was a mutant bug lady and that the mutant lizard scientist was going to eat her head throughout Wolverine. If you ever read The Skull Man manga, it happens to a bug women and it's gross. Rila Fukushima is so gross looking with her bug head.

Other sites will bring up how her addition to Ghost In the Shell was made to subvert the notions of white-washing the cast and Scarlett Johansson playing the main role of the Major. In the original manga and animes the entire cast has been Japanese.

That's not what's important, what's important is how creepy  Rila Fukushima face looks. Her forhead is like...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan Quick Review: Sucks

After trying to play with a friend a finding out there was no local co-op... in a Ninja Turtles game, I trekked through a boring mess for one level and then gave the game back to Redbox. Let it rot in that red machine, damn I should have left a note in it like I did for Prometheus.

Turtles is not worth your time, it may be the perfect piece of garbage to go with the upcoming movie out this weekend. Strangely enough the game isn't based on the film's look, but just general turtles folklore, including some of the comics, which hurts. I would have loved to have fought a Wingnut worth fighting. You may not know who that is, which is fine, but for long time turtles' fans it would have been fun.

Instead the game is so in-cohesive and the AI tacked on brothers attack so much I hardly did anything until the first boss fight. It's like letting loose a bunch of rapid mutant junkyard dogs who spout random lines at people.

I meant the first level was funny in the reasoning that Krang and Shredder are about to try and take over the world or whatever and send out the Foot Clan ninjas to attack ATMs. "Destroy the world's infrastructure starting with the common man getting his money." If Krang had said that I would have plotzed.

Let's not forget that turtles now come with shell parachutes. From the logic of 90's arcade games, the turtles' shells become parachutes so they can float down after double jumps. What? Why? I confess, I'd probably be praising this ridiculous idea if the game was any good.

Platinum; it's hard to rate the company overall because it just released Star Fox and then it releases this...this mess.

For any turtle fan stay clear, it's so worthless that there should be a sale online for the older local co-op four player games online.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One for $40

The Mega Cockroach Trap for Japanese Film Terra Formars

In Japan, they recently released a film about human like evolved Cockroach men on Mars in the film, Terra Formars from none-other than prolic and eccentric director Takashi Miike. The film is based on a manga of the same name and it's even weirder than you think. Japan is still able to use any sort of idea for marketing. So a local cockroach motel brand made a giant version of its sticky trap. But not Motel hookers dressed as cockroach ladies? Anyway, the trap is set for a scientist, a runner and a sumo. Fun, sticky results.

The Loud House Great Gets Second Season

We haven't had time yet to extended congratulations to Nickelodeon and series creator Chris Savino on their original series The Loud House. We are now, though, as The Loud House was just announced getting a 14-episode second season and came out as the Number 1 animated kids show in the ratings.

It's not a terrible property owned by Dreamworks created to cash-in on their movies fame without any real content and not a reboot series. The Loud House is the story of Lincoln Loud and his ten sisters, all with L names. The Loud House has Lincoln just trying to survive, as the theme song happily tells us, in a house with ten very different sisters. Lincoln breaks the fourth wall to tell viewers his plans on tasks we may find simple like getting to school on time or getting to play a video game, all of which go awry thanks to having ten sisters of different tastes and ages. Family chaos makes great cartoons.

The series not only has that classic Nick animation style of looking fun, but the writing draws you into the short 11-minutes trials of Lincoln. Many times they're the same moral of the story of relying or getting help from family. Those morals aren't learned until the end of an episode and before that it's a sisterly sea of chaos in the Loud House. Poopy diapers to pranks, soccer balls and angsty poetry with science experiments to go awry.

Maybe the success of the show is because of the work of creator Chris Savino. A veteran of the industry who has worked on so many successful and beloved cartoons before this one including Rocko's Modern Life and Powerpuff Girls, to name a few.

Whatever the reason for its success we suggest you get on board and start watching new episodes as they come out on Nick and Nick.com. New episodes will be coming out this June, while about 10-12 episodes, 22-minutes long are out now.

So watch Lincoln and his sisters, pick a favorite sister to get more screen time and try and memorize all their names. Helpful chart below.

Sunflare Paving the Way for Solar Energy in Los Angeles

by Maria Ramos

For years, solar panel technology has been weighed down - quite literally - by its own ambitions. Standard solar PV panels are too heavy and cumbersome for everyday people to hang on their own, requiring expensive, specialized mounting supports and professional installation in addition to the cost of the panels themselves,

Solar start-up Sunflare, based in Los Angeles, wants to liberate the weight of solar power and make it easier for everyone to take advantage of the sun’s limitless energy supply. The solar panels produced by this company are extremely lightweight and have more flexibility than traditional solar panels. In fact, according to Solarflare, they can be hung with "little more than a 3M tab on the side of buildings."

Sunflare solar panels are lightweight in part because they are made entirely without glass. Instead, they are composed of a thin film that absorbs as much, or more, light than traditional, heavier solar panels. The copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) solar panels are "65 percent lighter and able to produce 10 percent more energy throughout the day thanks in part to better efficiency in low light at dusk and dawn."

As solar panels become even more lightweight and inexpensive, we can look towards a future in which fossil fuel power is replaced by solar and other renewable energy sources. But such a major shift in the economy won't come without a struggle. Recent figures have shown that solar is rising - electrical output from solar energy sources has grown 400 percent in the four years between 2010-2014 - yet it still amounts to less than two percent of the total energy consumed in the country.

Looking on the bright side, almost all of this solar power was generated by homes and businesses outfitted with solar panels. And according to Atco Electric, as of late 2015 the solar industry now employs 209,859 solar workers, indicating a growth rate of 20.2% since the same time last year. Once large-scale utility plants are built to harness power from the sun, we can expect to see much more significant growth in solar electricity output. If we can develop the technology, there is absolutely no need to destroy our planet and raise global temperatures by continuing to rely upon carbon-based fuels.

Now that solar panels are entering a new age of both affordability and “adaptability”, the hurdle that needs to be overcome is the 'business as usual' mentality of corporations and the governments that support them. With new, lightweight solar panels like the ones created by Sunflare, the possibilities are endless. There are many large surfaces in Los Angeles and other cities that could act as power generators with the addition of solar panels. Building codes could even be revised to require that all new roofs be covered with solar film. The technology is here, and it's time to get on board with the transition to a clean energy economy.

It's not surprising that Sunflare and other startups are discovering ways to reduce the cost and improve the efficacy of solar energy collecting devices. The biggest challenge won’t be inadequate technology when it comes to halting global warming, here the only thing that can hold us back is ourselves.
