Baskin Bewildeing Nightmare Logic Review
Baskin will soon be followed by the sequel Robbins. Sorry, couldn't resist. And director Can Evrenol couldn't resist making a nightmare movie to rival anything from Italian 70's horror.
The film is about a five-man cop team that gets a call for back-up in the bad part of town. Did we mention the bad part of town was in Turkey. Or that the film takes place in Turkey? Hello, subtitles.
Anyway, what the cop team finds or really what finds them is a lovely sort of cult that wants them to join...even if they don't want to. They'll have to be initiated and that's where the grotesque nightmare only begins.
Get ready for your favorite gross out scenes as the start of the film is quite a lot of flashback and talking. These scene will have you going, "Ehhh, that poor guy."
The film involves dream logic, so forget time or real answers, get ready for some horrifying visuals and somehow a touch of your childhood if you grew up in the 80's or early 90's. The main character, who you wouldn't guess as the lead right away, has a room filled with toys like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and He-Man that makes me question if America's main export isn't just or pop culture.
Why bring up the leads childhood, oh, cause of topsy-turvy dream logic.
That wasn't what really shocked. I'll give some credits to the director for some great horrific visuals that can make a normal time getting dinner become a nightmare. So enjoy moments of a collection of cannibalistic amputees and their boss having fun in a truly new strange bit of horror.
We wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's definitely something strange to view at home and give you some weird thoughts. Totally get some Baskin Robbins before you see it.
Baskin is On VOD March 25th and opens in LA April 1st
