4/26 Alien Day, Get It?

LV-426, where "Aliens" takes place, so, you know 4/26 is coming up and will be Alien Day. A day to remember those vicious and gross xenomorphs with merchandise.

There's a lot of things going on in celebration of Alien Day, the biggest two our screenings of Alien and Aliens in theaters in major cities and guess what, you live in LA if you're reading this most likely.

We get Alamo Drafthouse presents Alien Day at The Theatre
Alamo Drafthouse, 20th Century Fox and Mondo (with a little help from Weyland-Yutani) are partnering to celebrate three terrifying decades of the Xenomorph with a nationwide celebration of all things Aliens on April 26, 2016.

Join us at The Theatre for a big screen double feature of Alien and Aliens with cast and crew, plus snag yourself some one-of-a-kind collectibles from Mondo, including an exclusive Ellen Ripley T-shirt featuring original artwork by Jay Shaw and more. Tickets go on sale April 1 at 10am PST.
We don't doubt it will sell out, so get them fast.

Update: We get Jenette Goldstein - AKA the tough-as-nails Private Vasquez - and Carrie Henn - the indomitable Newt at our screen of ALIENS at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel. We only get Aliens, no double feature for some reason?

It's the only place you can grab the limited run T-shirt that pays tribute to Ripley by artist Jay Shaw.

Secondly, Reebox is releasing the Reebok Alien Stomper, as well as the mid top version worn by Lance Henrikson as the Android Bishop. Get them at Reebok.com and select Reebok stores worldwide.

The Room in June Regent Theatre 13th Anniversary

I want to be kidding, but this will sell out. This June will see the 13th Anniversary of Tommy Wiseau's The Room and he'll be there in person. The film is considered the best of the worst, a film so idiotic it must be viewed and be made fun of. Rumors circle that the film exists solely as a way money was laundered by the mafia.

Two special viewings are coming up at the Nuarte this summer:

Fri Night, June 3
'Round Midnight w/Intro
Sat Night, June 4
'Round Midnight w/Intro
Includes Short Film "The Neighbors"

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Review Don't See It

Just don't see it. When I think about how me paying to go see it might spawn a sequel and when Warner Bros could care less about how bad the reviews are as long as it makes a profit...it just hurts. So please, don't see it. Wait for it to come online, there's no reason to see it in theaters, even just for laughs.

I'm not gonna sit here and break down how bad it is, that's been done to death. This is just a reminder to enjoy your weekend and see something else or do anything else. I hated it.

We Will Kill For The One-Of-Its-Kind Final Fantasy XV Audi R8

Why would you taunt us with such a beautiful car, why don't cars look cool in anyway near this. Damn you Square Enix, we're gonna have to kill whoever ends up getting the one and only production model. You did this, you did it!

Final Fantasy XV Uncovered LA: They Have A Flying Car!

Wow, just, wow! We were blown away by the Final Fantasy Uncovered event that took place in none other than our own Shrine Auditorium here in LA. Fans lined up hours before the auditorium opened  in the face of the first world problem of cold weather in a sunny climate. They were given DeviantArt Final Fantasy calendars, really some fan art calendars as swag. It's called free t-shirts, Square. A green screen to the side had you appearing in mini-movies of being carried away by a monster or scaring the choco-bros as a monster.

Finally, the doors opened and we were presented by a funny and endearing show by Tim Getts and Greg Miller from Kindafunny.com. They revealed fact after fact about Final Fantasy XV. They even addressed the leak about the release date with Greg saying the big red button, meant to reveal the date on stage, was already pushed by Gamespot.

Before the big breakdown there was a surprise guest, one of many. Hironobu Sakaguchi, he called himself the father of Final Fantasy, and he is, he created it. He started the event saying in Japanese, "I'm happy to be hear tonight, with all of you, to just see how Final Fantasy has rediscovered it's true nature."

Let's break down what we learned from the event.

After some fun with a countdown clock on stage, freaking out the audience with another release date, the clock went to the previously leaked September 30th of this year. That's right you can play the game this year. You can already order a special edition and a collector's edition online here, with just a regular edition for both PS4 and Xbox One.

Surprise, surprise a free demo on both systems playable now. Final Fantasy XV’s Platinum Demo with a young prince Noctis, one of the four main protagonists from the game has you trying out gameplay early. Of fun note, you have the cutest of pets called Carbuncle in this demo, if you play it and get the game he'll becomes free DLC for the main game. This isn't a chunk of the game ripped out, it's a side story adding to the mythos.

A bigger reveal adding to the mythos was an entirely new cgi film that's been three years in production and looks absolutely gorgeous. Kings Glaive Final Fantasy, is a prequel to the game starring Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad as the lead role of Nyx, special bodyguard/knight to the King Regis who is none other than Sean Bean. They're joined by Lena Headey as Princess Luna in what looks like the best looking CGI film yet to come out. It looks close to one of our save the President movies. It said it was going to be available online, but we would rather have some in theater experiences for the film, no release date, but it'll come out before the game does.

We have no hope for the story, but the film just looks too damn cool.

Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV looks damn cool, a free five-part anime series that reveals the four main protagonist of the game, Noctis, the prince is joined by Ignis, the smart guy in the group with Gladiolus, rounded out with fan favorite Promto. The anime is another prequel series that just builds the universe and gives fans more to get into. The whole series comes out before the game does for free online.

Going over the characters a little, it couldn't be more of a Japanese idol boy band. I'm not sure if the game was just written to appease Yaoi fandom or just seems fun, but the greatest aspect I saw from the trailers was the bro-mance. These guys are friends, going camping, riding around in a sweet car and riding Chocobos together. Chocobos are big flightless birds known from the series. The crew has been titled the Choco-bros because of this. Whatever happens the game has captured the idea of friendship enough that even we want to go out camping and bro-out. They game made it seem like were missing out on an experience.

Out of seemingly nowhere the main theme song for the game became, "Stand By Me," redone by Florence + the Machine. It fits with the bro-mance going on, and play much more to it being downright Yaoi love.

You can also play a mini-game on your phone that will also be in FFXV, Justice Monsters V. It's a pinball game that looks crazy. You can preregister to download it.

And yes, the big reveal at the end was the car in game can fly. Why? Who cares? The car can fly!

Hats off to Square Enix for great planning and event that really gets fans pumped to play their games. It could have only been better if it gave something other than calendars.

Moonbeam City Cancelled

Comedy Central just showed its renew list and Moonbeam City was not on it. The 80's style, pumped with jokes, dripping with neon show only lasted 10 episodes, but to Comedy Central must have not gained enough in ratings. Frustratingly annoying to hear after that show was in development and went to two Comic-Cons before even hitting TV.

Creator Scott Gairdner took to Twitter to write about the end of his series.

TTDILA loved the series and hopes that Comedy Central has the decency to sell a kickass special Blu-ray with help from Mondo or some other company well versed in special editions.

The Aquarium of the Pacific Will Expand

The Long Beach aquarium, Aquarium of the Pacific, will be expanding in the next few years. Just think parents, more to explore, oh, you're tired already, too bad. We wonder how date nights will go with nights at the aquarium with the new additions.

The new Pacific Visions wing, that sort of looks like a whale, on purpose, is slated to finish in 2018. The new theater sounds like something out of an anime with floor projection and wired seats.

Details on the expansion include

·         Honda Pacific Visions Theater
The two-story, 300-seat Honda Pacific Visions Theater will include a 130-foot-wide by 32-foot-tall screen, curved in a 180 degree arc and a retractable 30-foot-diameter floor projection disc to immerse visitors in a virtual ocean environment. The theater will bring to life epic ocean stories, allowing audiences to discover new species, witness the processes and phenomena of Earth’s ecosystems, and grapple with the many challenges facing the natural world. Each seat will be wired for interactivity, providing visitors opportunities to explore a range of possible trajectories for our planet and underscoring how human action can lead to a more sustainable future. All stories will be developed by the Aquarium in partnership with leading scientists, filmmakers, storytellers, and digital artists. The infrastructure created for this theater will allow for media-rich performances, panel discussions, community meetings, and educational seminars that can incorporate live broadcast feeds and streaming media.

·         Main Entrance and Front Plaza
The Aquarium’s redesigned Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg Entrance will include an expanded ticketing area and special members’ entrance, as well as a Member Services Center. The front plaza will serve as a community gathering space, which will feature outdoor programs and art installations.
·         Changing Exhibit Gallery
The expanded Changing Exhibit Gallery will double the existing changing exhibit gallery space, adding a total of 6,000 square feet. The new space will feature live animals and immersive interactive multi-media displays and expansive dynamic projected wall murals to complement and foster deeper engagement with the narrative and themes of each temporary exhibit. These exhibits will be rotated periodically to reflect current scientific issues and discoveries and will be developed in conjunction with the theater experiences.
·         Art Gallery and Orientation Gallery
Visitors will enter the new wing though the Pacific Visions Art Gallery featuring a range of changing installations to establish an emotional connection to the ocean and marine life. Visitors will then proceed into the Orientation Gallery, which will showcase a 26-foot-wide by 8-foot-tall media wall to introduce visitors to the challenges and promises of the future to be explored in the theater.

The 5th Annual Wayne Federman International Film Festival
March 31-April 3
The Cinefamily
$14

Wayne Federman is a “That Guy”; we are subconsciously familiar with his face, burned into the vacuum tubes of our minds like an errant screensaver. Although his name may not be as familiar, trolling the communal id will reveal his patented one-scene “Federman-and-outs” in a slew of high-profile films: Legally Blonde, 40-Year-Old Virgin, Funny People, Step Brothers, 50 First Dates — plus substantial arcs in shows like X-Files. The Larry Sanders Show and Curb Your Enthusiasm. So when Wayne came to us with the novel idea for a film festival of repertory films curated by stand-up comedians — we were interested. When Wayne explained that the comedians would not only select films that were personally inspiring and influential to them, but would also intro the film, perform, and participate in a post-screening Q&A, we did what any right-thinking movie theater should do — we said YES.
