The Japanese tea ceremony, a 400-year-old tradition,
celebrates the simple act of preparing and receiving a bowl of special
tea-ceremony tea. A series of tea ceremony demonstrations will be held March 29
through June 7 in conjunction with the exhibition Raku: The Cosmos in a Tea
Bowl, which features tea bowls by the Raku family of potters. Each tea ceremony
demonstration (noon, 1 pm, and 2 pm) is followed by a tasting of the tea and
sweets used in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
