The Dragon Ball 30th Anniversary tribute will feature the work of over 80
artists, many of whom are veterans of the animation industry and whose work has
been featured numerously online.
The high energy action-filled battles and childish humor of
the Dragon Ball series will be on display on numerous pieces featuring fan
favorites Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta and Bulma. The series is a quintessential part
of anime the world over with the series itself inspiring other manga creators,
fans and culture for three decades.
The creative mind behind mega-hits like Dr. Slump and Dragon
Ball, Toriyama, stands today as one of manga's most influential and successful
figures. He has also contributed to the video game industry, with character
designs for Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger. Pieces based on his illustrious
career will also be featured at the show.
Dragon Ball 30th anniversary/Akira Toriyama Tribute Show
will be taking place at Q2, 319 E 2nd Street Suite 121 Los Angeles, CA 90012;
Saturday, November 15 at 7:00pm - 10:00pm. This is the brand new second
location for art gallery and boutique Q Pop within the Japanese Village Plaza
of LA’s Little Tokyo. The event is being curated by the artist Chogrin, known
for his many tribute art shows and work with the Autumn Society.
The opening night is sure to draw a crowd as the last event from QPop,
Magical Girl Heroines, a tribute art show for Sailor Moon, drew a crowd of
hundreds many who were cosplaying. The show sent waves in the art world as multiple
Sailor Moon art shows came after it.
Things To Do In LA is holding a World Martial ArtsTournament Power Up and Dragon Ball Cosplay Contest opening night. Fans in attendance can win
prizes sponsored Bandai Namco, whose new game Dragonball XenoVerse comes out
this February. Viz has also donated some manga as prizes for the Power-Up Contest. Fans can win Bandai games and Viz Manga by pretending to power-up as best as they
can like their favorite Dragon Ball warriors or by dressing up like their favorite
characters from the series. The opening night’s crowd will vote for the best
power up warriors and best cosplayer.
