"Inspired by both the paranormal plans of the Haunted Mansion and the European tradition
of the “cabinet of curiosities,” the Museum was to play host to an
abundance of otherworldly oddities. Crump’s fanciful concept art lived
up to the Imagineering name - a lizard with bells on its tail,
two-headed dragons, a chair that stood up and talked to guests.
Gracey set about engineering many of Crump’s designs. The Museum was to be a spill area, an antechamber where guests awaited the beginning of the ride, but the plan dissolved along the way, and the Museum was never to be. A number of the concepts made it into the Mansion in some form - disappearing and reappearing spooks, the chair with a face, Madame Leota’s cart, the famous wallpaper.
On Saturday, September 13th, CREATURE FEATURES revisits this long-lingering concept with a group tribute show showcasing artwork from over 50 artists paying tribute to Crump & Gracey’s original visions."
