Takashi Murakami returns after a hiatus in LA since his art show at Blum & Poe, which he owns. For one night the Japanese artist will be debuting his first feature length film "Jellyfish Eyes". Murakami, who has a strong background of anime and manga in his art, will be at the screening in person at the recently renovated Ace Hotel. This is part of a nationwide tour of his film.
Jellyfish Eyes has TTDILA's mouth-watering. It is the true, honest-to-good, crazy Japanese film we've been waiting for. The plot is part Pokemon movie, replacing Pokemon with Murakami's creations called F.R.I.E.N.D.S.. An underlying dark evil force seen a million times in Japanese films and the fears of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster rolled into one glorious insane trip.
The film managed to flop in Japan and even though planned as a trilogy has had such a problem between its animation staff and Murakami production has been halted on making more in the series.via
