Variety likes it and even explains the annoying convoluted history behind it.
There's a small review from the 
LA Times which more or less explains it as confusing.
 "The convoluted plot will make any neophyte more confused than a dog in 
space. Desiccated by its pretensions, it's freeze-dried melodrama."
