Multiple Locations
The AFI Film Fest just announced it's Opening Gala film the North American Premiere of Saving Mr. Banks, starring Tom Hanks, for Thursday, November 7. It's the untold story of how Mary Poppins was made, it wasn't that easy. Mary Poppins will be celebrating it's 50th anniversary screening as well. It premiered at the Grauman and is fitting it will be shown again to a new audience there in 2013.
The films will be shown one month after the premiere of Escape From Tomorrow, a without permission shot film in Disneyland and Disney World that doesn't put the magic kingdom in a good light. Disney might be dealing in lawsuits at the time, but no mention of a legal defense taken by Disney so far is in the news.
The film festival will have the world premier of Fox Catcher opening weekend and closes withInside Lleweyn Davis. This year's Guest Artistic Director is Agnès Varda, having the title of “the mother of French New Wave cinema,”.
