Thursday, April 25, 7:30–11:00 p.m. (Doors open at 7:00 p.m.)

"Immerse yourself in the art of Gary Baseman at this special opening night party also featuring L.A. indie band Nightmare and the Cat and a DJ set by Shepard Fairey!

At this celebration of the opening of the exhibition Gary Baseman: The Door Is Always Open, on view through August 18, Gary Baseman will paint a spontaneous new artwork while Nightmare and the Cat—“a rock ’n’ roll force to be reckoned with,” says the New York Times—plays live in the Skirball’s spectacular central courtyard. The evening kicks off with a DJ set by street artist and designer Shepard Fairey.
Following the performances, visitors will be invited to break a piñata specially created by Baseman for the occasion, and to participate in other activities such as mask making, community mural painting, a scavenger hunt for Baseman’s “Toby” character, a Baseman-inspired ring toss, and other games.
Costumed Baseman characters such as Toby, ChouChou, and Wild Girls will be on hand to welcome guests and guide them to event activities.
The evening also includes late-night gallery tours and a cash bar serving specialty cocktails."
