Committee Kicks off its 35th Annual Run/Walk in Chinatown Plaza
To
Commemorate Lunar New Year’s “Year of the Snake”
WHAT: More than 8,000
athletes will join 25,000 spectators when the non-profit Los Angeles
Firecracker Run Committee (LACFRC) celebrates its’ 35th Annual 5/10K Run/Walk to
commemorate Lunar New Year’s “Year of the Snake.” The festive opening will be punctuated by the
glow of 100,000 sparkling firecrackers.
As the largest Lunar
New Year charity run in the United States, participating runners, walkers and cyclists
will compete in various challenging activities: a 5/10K
Run/Walk, 20/30 Mile Bike Ride and a 1K Kiddie Run to take place along a scenic course that winds through Los
Angeles’ most historic neighborhood.
The
L.A. Clippers Spirit Dance Team , goodwill
ambassadors for the L.A. Clippers, will rally the athletes with a series of
dance performances and lead them in a spirited warm-up exercise prior to the
competition.
The annual
Run/Walk will kick off with a free weekend celebration, open to the public,
beginning on February 23 from 10AM-4PM and continue throughout the
day on February 24th from 8AM-12PM.
Festivities will include a Nite n’ Day Festival featuring live music
mixed by DJ Shy, Hula dancers, Japanese Taiko drummers, Salsa and Bollywood
dancers. An interactive petting zoo will add to the family-friendly atmosphere
with familiar and exotic animals such as mini horses, alpacas, snakes, ducks
and tortoises.
