LA Weekly goes out of 2012 with a terrible mess called their "Comics Issue". Instead of what I thought be articles about LA's comic industry, the people in it, local comic shops or at least some up and coming web comics with creators based in LA are instead replaced with single report on Kevin Eastman (creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). A few boring comics that are simply our of place and you have one hell of a misleading cover.
I find it so strange when LA Weekly has done some fine reporting on the best comic shops in LA for their best of issues and I think recently reported on Meltdown Comics a few issues back. Nothing from Liz Ohanesian, who I just praised for covering more nerdy subjects in LA. She has no contribution to this issue.
The cover should have simply have Kevin Eastman exclusive, but "Comics Issue" has no place when there are so many shops, people and connections LA Weekly could have written about instead of one featured article. Maybe, the staff was still coming back from the Christmas party. Not a good way to start off the new year.
