Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt 

will open May 23rd at the California Science Center. French underwater archaeologist Franck Goddio who brought the exhibit to the surface and LA said, "Think of them(artifacts) being touched by Cleopatra herself." at the press opening. TTDILA had the chance to explore the exhibit first hand. It's a collection to make you think of how powerful the last pharaoh of Egypt was. The highlight might be a statue of a Ptolemaic queen that suddenly meets you after the short introduction film or perhaps the two giant colossi statues of a king and a queen you see above.

 The IMAX Film - Mysteries of Egypt is now playing to accompany exhibit, can you really pass on any new IMAX Film, they're such a treat,. Just a note, California Science Center's IMAX is one of three true IMAXes in LA, the rest are meek conversions.

I recommend getting a audio player to fully immerse yourself the exhibit. The exhibit  has some hands on stuff for the kids and the story of getting its artifacts to the surface is retold.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Science Center open for free, if you haven't been, a lot has changed, you can still buy awful tasting astronaut ice cream in the gift shop . That reminds me, the Cleopatra gift shop had too kiosks where you name could be spelled out in hieroglyphics and printed all nicely for a dollar, the machines weren't running when I was there, let's hope they are when you go.
