Ethostream LA Public Libraries
A man alone in a library looks at his ugly laptop,
I recently have been going to public libraries around LA. Thanks to voters there open everyday, but Sunday. If you didn't know you can access the Internet for free and plug in you laptop for free at any.
The only thing is you have to connect to the Ethostream Network in the library. You also have to hit accept on a page that pops up before you're allowed to use the library Internet. The image above is on that page. Why that image of some random pissed off guy alone with a ugly looking laptop was chosen is beyond me. I just have to ask why any other artwork wasn't chosen. I also wonder if that guy even knows the picture was taken. That he knows he's a beacon for Internet usage at the library.
It's just funny.
I also recommend getting a library card to not only rent books, but DVD's and CDs. It took me about 3 minutes.

Chowhound Be Assholes
blogging. la wrote up a totally nice basic F U to the Chowhound community complaining about Donut Summit. The second you're a foodie blog that complains about Donut Summit I don't care what you have to say. Chowhound wrote up how Donut Summit couldn't get donuts for free and that spelling was bad in blogging.LA posts. Who cares Chowhound? It's a freaking Donut Summit, I have no idea how anyone could hate or complain. Then when a commenter from blogging.la wrote in the comments section twice about how nice Donut Summit was, it was deleted.
Over Donut Summit really?
In my looking for things to do in LA, I have ventured to Chowhound and found it useless.
In other donut news Dunkin Donuts will finally be in LA so people can't be jerks and say it isn't anymore. For those who have had friends who have been jerks about this don't tell them and then bet money that there is when they finally open.

Open Casting Call for "Magnus Rex" aka Next Batman Movie
So Warner Bros is being sneaky about wanting extras for the next Batman movie. Anybody has a chance to be in it just head out Sunday. I didn't know it was in production this early, might it be marketing for the game Arkham City? Who knows?

Scandal Cute Japanese Girls in School Uniforms
SCANDAL the all girl rock band from Japan rocked out loud at AM2. Scandal is known in the anime community for providing opening and ending themes to multiple shows such as K-ON! and Full Metal Alchemist. The show was a delight as fans rocked out to the band kick butt earlier this month. This was a huge deal for AM2 and I saw a line forming hours before for this free concert.
The girls sense of style on stage mixed with the light show let people enjoy the night as only Otaku or anime fans could. I was sitting dead center to hear this might band burst with electricity, sending shocks into the audience. A lighting storm of beats crashed down on us with all the girls playing together.
We barely got up from our fight before we all shouted, "Encore, Encore" with boys shouting, " I love you Scandal" They came back in a flash with more energy and more songs to beat into us there rocking.

Gumby Meets Art in the Streets
Kent Osborne from the Adventure Time staff had some free time to shoot some excellent stop-motion at the Art in the Streets exhibit with the help of the Levi's Film Worksop next door. Also his brother who directed Kung-Fu Panda. I'm just amazed at what all the Adventure Time Staff does in it's free time. I'm sure if you follow who works on the show you"ll see a pattern of succes and cool stuff.
Art in the Streets is open till August 8th
The Levi's Film Workshop
You can meet the brothers Osborne tomorrow and watch the movie in person

Welcome To Little Tokyo
I'm happy to see Weller Court and Astronaut Street filled with businesses again. The only things that Little Tokyo might want to refurbish is the map right in front of Weller Court and putting up a new plastic or harder to steal plaque for the statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya.
It's strange the statue isn't in front of the Little Tokyo Library or the bookstore. The Little Tokyo Library might also want to move closer to the main area of Little Tokyo, but that seems like the hardest thing to do.
I really hope maybe with Nisei Week or other events they could raise awarness or money for a new map and plaque. The map really shoudn't be that hard, maybe I'll ask around and see what's up with them.
From the Quirky Japan Blog the origin of the statue
Kinjiro eventually became very wealthy and influential, and was hired by the local lord to rebuild the family’s treasury. His finacial policies became famous, and spread throughout the country, making him very famous. He became a symbol of thrift and diligence, and in the pre-war years, thousands of Kinjiro statues were created, and placed in elementary schools all over Japan. Unfortunately, most of them were melted down during the war, and when it ended, his name had become wrongly associated with the right-wing military movement that had caused the war, so there are very few of these statues left today."

Anime Hype: Otakon not in LA
Even though Otakon isn't in LA it seems likes another big anime con stateside. I bring it up because the premiere of Puella Magi Madoka Magica on Friday, July 29. This is one of the anime I told you to look out for and with Aniplex grabbing it you might see a release via Bandai or even possbily Adult Swim.
This is a dark take on the Magical Girl story, think of things getting worse and not everything being as it seems.

The other premiere I find a bit troubling is for Tekken: Blood Vengeance because it already premiered here in LA, there getting the not 3D version and I have to say it was shot for 3D experience.
Apple Opens Next to Apple
Apple Opens at The Americana at Brand on Saturday, July 30
Apple's giving away t-shirts to the first 1,000 customers .
It seems stupid to me becuase there's already a Apple Store in the adjacent Glendale Galleria. Unless they shut that one down it's just retarded.
Get a free t-shirt I guess and ponder if it should really be called the genuis bar.

Tekken: Blood Vengeance Let the Hilarity Ensue
When I say Blood, you say Vengeance! Blood! Vengeance! Blood! Vengeance!
Hey, how about a movie about a cute school girl and cute android girl becoming friends. Only a movie the Japanese could come up with could be titled Tekken: Blood Vengeance and star two cute girls. That's what the night was about at the Regal Cinemas at the premier for Tekken: Blood Vengeance.
If you bought a ticket a lovely movie poster and t-shirt awaited you at the event. The theater was filled with fans pleased by this display. You could also try the new Tekken Tag Tournament in the lobby.
Unbeknown to me voice actress Christina Vee was cosplaying as her character from the movie. She did a great job playing the silly robot girl Alisa Bosconovitch. Apparently that character was created in a very short time, just because there was an extra slot for another fighter.
Before the movie started we were introduced to some of the cast and crew, but that was immediately blown away, by the cute Japanese voice actress Maaya Sakamoto who made the night more than silly taking on five different Tekken champs before us on the big screen. She bit one of them and the crowds sting, must of hurt more than being beaten by a girl. Watching video games gets played on a big screen is still a sight to behold. The last time I saw it was at the Insomniac Community Day. This blew that away with a bigger screen. Hearing a Japanese voice actress as she's beating or losing to a opponent in a school girl uniform with pig tails in a theater while playing Tekken is a sight to behold and be happy you live in LA to see. Sakamoto's was damn good, too. She kicked some ass.
So how was the movie? It was crazy romp filled with martial art moves, cute school girls, robots and insane plot and a big panda. Another normal day in the Tekken Universe. If you've played the series and watch the cut scenes it just as ridiculous. It's a movie not to be taken seriously. The other amazing point is the tournament isn't taken place int the movie. Instead you got corporate espionage, mixed with teenage love and science fiction and fantasy the evolves into a insane ending that seems all to plausible in the Tekken Universe. If you've played Tekken you can predict what's going to happen in the blood feud between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama that pulls both Ling Xiaoyu and Alisa Bosconovich as their pawns.
I think the movie should have gone all the way and been about the Tekken Tournament and involved more charcters. I was happy enough with the story, but it easily could have included more of the cast in some fast bouts. What was discussed was how it was the second Tekken movie. I'd think the producer would want us to forget about the Tekken live action movie which is simply a so bad it's good movie. It also didn't have a premiere and headed straight to the home market.
After the movie a short Q and A and a vow from Maaya Sakamoto to get her title back as a Tekken player at EVO were sounded. A funny mess up from the host had us laughing as the Bandai CEO left early when he called him up to say good night.
Super iam8bit 8 bit booty
Spot a 8 anywhere in LA?
Behold the Super iam8bit flyers are starting to pop up around LA. When the pop open they reveal.
A free Super iam8bit poster as well as sponsors, the new book pre-order info and particpating artist list.
Whose on the list? Some old favorites Gabe Swarr(one of my favorites), Judd Buffum (pixel artist extraordinaire), Jim Mahfood (indie artist and painter of nude women, he literally paints on nude women), Scott C (you've seen his tiny pieces almost everywhere, he did so many for the Great Showdowns series).
John Dilworth the man behind Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Big news! Someone else from Cartoon Network's catalog. Another great one Pen Ward creator of Adventure Time will be in the show. I'm more than excitied!
Paul Robertson known for video game pixel art, he gaves us the Scott Pilgrim video game and so many other great movies that throw homages all of your face. His an Aussie hope he shows up.
Finally, probably the coolest addition, my friend Sky Burchard is in the show! The first interview for this site was with him. You"ll be blown away by his stuff! Hint* "It's Dangerous To Go Alone"

Milk for Hipsters
Milk
7290 Beverly Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90036
An overpriced bakery for hipster garbage. If you wanna bring babies, dogs and a lousy attitude this multi-food eatery is yours to not be near me. I had traveled past the creamy designed place many a time, but inside you"ll notice it's not that big or nice to sit in. After some terrible service where the cashier was terrified of me asking questions calmly I ordered a overprice burger. That overprice burger took forever to find me, which doesn't make sense in such a small place.
I sampled the treats a cupcake in a cone and a chocolate malt weren't stellar or worth coming back too. The Chocolate malt was actually a bit bitter for chocolate.
The only style Milk has is in it's look and just like a hipster, beyond that it has nothing, don't bother ever going.
