Two museums events in two days, but they ain't no field trips from grade school. First up
Wormholes
Wormholes is from MOCA's new monthly series of engagement parties. These engagement parties are free events open to the public and are usually interactive. They've switched the people behind the event to the Imaginary Scientist. A art collective group of artists and scientists froms this group. No idea what the Wormhole party will be, but it's probably one of the strange ideas below.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 6, 7–10pm
MOCA Grand Avenue
from MOCA site:
The Museum of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce The League of Imaginary Scientists as the winter 2011 participants in Engagement Party, MOCA’s program that presents new works by innovative Southern California–based artist collectives and collaborators. The League of Imaginary Scientists (formed 2006, Los Angeles) is a non-exclusive society for creative scientists, mechanically-inclined artists, absurdist inventors and self-proclaimed quacks. The group draws on the strange sensibilities of Dr. L Hernandez Gomez, Professor Jojo Johansen, Dr. William T. Madmann, Dr. Stephan Schleidan, and Professor Troubadour, whose combined visions create a kaleidoscope of ideas. They will bring The Evolving Contraption, a morphing art apparatus and stage for interactive adventures, to MOCA for a series of unique public interventions on the first Thursday evenings of January, February, and March 2011.
Then you have the Natural History Musuem bringing back
First Fridays: What On Earth?
First Fridays are brought to us by the Natural History Museum. A monthly event occuring the first friday of every month. They involve a lecture on a certain topic, this time the Earth, discussions, music from live bands and dj's. They actually made museums cool.

Friday January 8th 5:30pm
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County
900 Exposition Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90007
from the Natrual History site:
Tour (5:30 pm, 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm): "What Was This Feather For?" with Dr. Margaret Hardin (Division Chief, History and Anthropology) and KT Hajeian (Collections Manager, Anthropology)
WHAT IS WHAT ON EARTH?
What on Earth? is a new installation featured in our historic Haaga Family Rotunda. Each architectural case presents enigmatic and visually arresting specimens from NHM’s collection, and the objects' "identities" unfold through a playful dialogue as visitors wander around the installation. Each First Fridays tour focuses on a single case, and as you will learn, in science there are usually more questions than answers!
Discussion (6:30 pm): "The Science of Creativity" with Jonah Lehrer
Why do we have our best ideas in the shower? Which drugs make us more creative? Why are certain cities so much innovative than others? Does brainstorming work? These are a few of the questions that will be addressed in Lehrer's talk, which features material from his forthcoming book, “Imagine.”
Performances (8:00 pm - 10:00 pm)
Performances in the Diorama Hall with Little Dragons and Sister Crayon
Swedish quartet Little Dragons brought their high-energy electro-synth pop performance to Coachella and SXSW last year, and this January they’re stopping by on their first U.S. tour to play at the Natural History Museum. The group fuses electronica and R&B to create a rich, danceable sound that can’t be ignored.
DJs (5:30 pm - 10:00 pm)
KCRW DJs Anthony Valadez and Garth Trinidad join us in the lounge where you can get your groove on and enjoy the dioramas of the African Mammal Hall
